MT BACHELOR UNVEILS COMPREHENSIVE 2008-2009 CHARITABLE GIVING PLAN
Donations Program Aims to Support Local Organizations That Improve and Uphold Central Oregon Way of Life

Ten Central Oregon non–profit organizations will distribute Mt Bachelor lift vouchers in advance that will be redeemable for a $25 lift ticket during one of two charity ski periods. All ticket revenue generated through this giving plan will be donated directly to the organizations that distributed the ticket. Organizations will be presented a check for the amount of vouchers redeemed at the conclusion of each charity ski period

The first grouping of 'community skiing' occured January 5th through the 16th. We raised over $32,000 dollars! In April we topped that number and donated $37.950 making the grand total for the year $70,750.

Take the challenge and c'mon up and ski for $25 to benefit the next round of organizations, namely United Way, Volunteers in Medicine, Oregon Adaptive Sports and the local Boys and Girls Scouts. Folks looking to acquire a free voucher redeemable for the $25 lift ticket during the charity ski periods should contact the distributing organizations.

The following organizations are participating in the Mt Bachelor charity ticket program this year: United Way, Saving Grace, Sparrow Club, Tower Theatre, NeighborImpact, Boy and Girl Scouts, Volunteers in Medicine, MBSEF, and Oregon Adaptive Sports. Organizations will be distributing either 1000 or 500 vouchers depending on their size and scope.

The $25 charity vouchers can be redeemed midweek Jan 5-16, and midweek April 6-17. Organizations distributing vouchers for the first charity period are NeighborImpact, MBSEF, Saving Grace, Sparrow Club, and Tower Theatre. The second period will be to benefit United Way, Oregon Adaptive Sports, Volunteers in Medicine, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

"We're pleased to be part of Mt Bachelor's new charitable giving campaign," said Sharon Miller, NeighborImpact's Executive Director. “We appreciate our ongoing partnership with Mt Bachelor which helps to feed many families across the region. As part of this new charitable initiative we will be distributing the tickets within a few weeks so we hope folks will go out and ski for a good cause.”

 Donation Requests

Mt. Bachelor is committed to supporting events and organizations whose activities benefit the residents of central Oregon. Each season we donate generously to a diverse group of local charitable organizations. Organizations wishing to request individual donations for fundraiser events should visit our donations page for our donations request form. As we receive up to one hundred requests per month, in order to maintain a fair system all requests must be made via this online form. Organizations must have 501c3 tax status and not be affiliated with any religious or political cause.

 Annual Events

Along with these and other contributions, Mt. Bachelor sponsors many on-mountain events.

The Dirksen Derby is held in December. Hosted by internationally renowned local snowboarder Josh Dirksen, the event has raised over $5,000 for the Tyler Eklund Fund in the last 2 years. Tyler Eklund was paralyzed in April of 2007 in a snowboarding accident during a practice run for a national championship.  In 2008's Derby, Josh donated a custom made Salomon Sick Stick snowboard as a raffle prize. All the raffle money for the snowboard went towards Cole Ortega, Mt Bachelor Grom Squad member, to help cover medical costs from his surfing injury this past summer. Cole's arm was severed while surfing on the Oregon Coast in July of 2008. We plan to offer the event each year around our season's opening with 100% of the proceeds going towards different beneficiaries.

Riders for the Cure presented by Mt Bachelor and hosted by our Grom Squad and Freeride Team, is a fun local event to raise money for Sara's Project, a cooperative breast health education effort led by St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Through our collective efforts between Mt. Bachelor, community businesses and individuals, we've brought in almost $50,000 for breast cancer awareness programs throughout eight counties in Central and Eastern Oregon. Join us April 4, 2009, for the 6th annual Riders for the Cure.

The Employee Food Drive is a competition among Mt. Bachelor employees and a great way to help the St. Vincent de Paul. Although it's a battle to be the "Most Giving Department," the real winners were those who benefited from the more than 2500 pounds of food donated by Mt. Bachelor employees.

As they have been every year for more than 20 years, the Oregon Special Olympics Winter Games will again be held at Mt. Bachelor. We donate time and effort grooming and setting courses, timing races, and making lunches for the Olympians, coaches and volunteers. All that is in addition to our donation of more than 300 lift tickets. Watch  these amazing athletes in February 2009.

Mt Bachelor donated one of our shuttle busses and we also drove it around central Oregon for 2 weeks in an effort to generate food for our area's premiere foodbank. The Stuff The Bus campaign brought in about 7000 pounds of food. Thanks to all of the programs sponsors and to Combined Communications for running point on this fabulous effort. Hooray to everyone who helped us Stuff The Bus!
