MT. BACHELOR ANNOUNCES DATES AND RECIPIENTS FOR ANNUAL CHARITY SKI WEEKS

Ski Area Joins Forces with 10 Central Oregon Non-Profits for January and April Fundraising Campaigns

(Bend, Ore – Nov 11, 2009) – After donating over $70,000 in the first year of the Charity Ski Weeks program, Mt. Bachelor is proud to announce the return of the program for another season. During two weeks in January and two weeks in April guests will be able to ski for $25 using vouchers distributed by Central Oregon Non-Profits. Every redeemed voucher will result in $25 being donated.

The first period is slated for January 4-15 midweek. The Non-Profits that will be distributing vouchers prior to the January period are United Way, NeighborImpact, The Environmental Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Volunteers in Medicine. Contact the organizations for their individual methods of distribution.

The second period is slated for April 5-16 midweek. The Non-Profits that will be distributing vouchers prior to the April period are MBSEF, Sparrow Clubs, Saving Grace, Boys and Girls Club, and Oregon Adaptive Sports.

“There is genuine excitement about the potential of this program in its second year,” said Alex Kaufman, Marketing Director at Mt. Bachelor. “We’ve proven that it can work to get lots of folks on the slopes, while also raising significant funds for the betterment of the community. Now we can work on growing the total amount of funds raised year over year. While charitable giving has taken a hit nationally and locally in the last couple of years, we are proud to be expanding ours as the need increases.”

In addition to the Charity Ski Weeks campaign, Mt. Bachelor is proud to support hundreds of local and regional causes as well as local schools via the Ski for Schools Program. Donation requests for fundraising auctions and raffles can be made via the “donations” form at http://www.mtbachelor.com/community.

 Donation Requests

Mt. Bachelor is committed to supporting events and organizations whose activities benefit the residents of central Oregon. Each season we donate generously to a diverse group of local charitable organizations. Organizations wishing to request individual donations for fundraiser events should visit our donations page for our donations request form. As we receive up to one hundred requests per month, in order to maintain a fair system all requests must be made via this online form. Organizations must have 501c3 tax status and not be affiliated with any religious or political cause.

 Annual Events

Along with these and other contributions, Mt. Bachelor sponsors many on-mountain events.

The Dirksen Derby is held in December. Hosted by internationally renowned local snowboarder Josh Dirksen, the event has raised over $5,000 for the Tyler Eklund Fund in the last 2 years. Tyler Eklund was paralyzed in April of 2007 in a snowboarding accident during a practice run for a national championship.  In 2008's Derby, Josh donated a custom made Salomon Sick Stick snowboard as a raffle prize. All the raffle money for the snowboard went towards Cole Ortega, Mt Bachelor Grom Squad member, to help cover medical costs from his surfing injury this past summer. Cole's arm was severed while surfing on the Oregon Coast in July of 2008. We plan to offer the event each year around our season's opening with 100% of the proceeds going towards different beneficiaries.

Riders for the Cure presented by Mt Bachelor and hosted by our Grom Squad and Freeride Team, is a fun local event to raise money for Sara's Project, a cooperative breast health education effort led by St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Through our collective efforts between Mt. Bachelor, community businesses and individuals, we've brought in almost $50,000 for breast cancer awareness programs throughout eight counties in Central and Eastern Oregon. Join us April 4, 2009, for the 6th annual Riders for the Cure.

The Employee Food Drive is a competition among Mt. Bachelor employees and a great way to help the St. Vincent de Paul. Although it's a battle to be the "Most Giving Department," the real winners were those who benefited from the more than 2500 pounds of food donated by Mt. Bachelor employees.

As they have been every year for more than 20 years, the Oregon Special Olympics Winter Games will again be held at Mt. Bachelor. We donate time and effort grooming and setting courses, timing races, and making lunches for the Olympians, coaches and volunteers. All that is in addition to our donation of more than 300 lift tickets. Watch  these amazing athletes in February 2009.

Mt Bachelor donated one of our shuttle busses and we also drove it around central Oregon for 2 weeks in an effort to generate food for our area's premiere foodbank. The Stuff The Bus campaign brought in about 7000 pounds of food. Thanks to all of the programs sponsors and to Combined Communications for running point on this fabulous effort. Hooray to everyone who helped us Stuff The Bus!
