Partnering to better Central Oregon

Mt. Bachelor is committed to supporting events and organizations whose activities benefit the residents of Central Oregon. Each season we donate generously in lift tickets and cash donations to a diverse group of local charitable organizations.  This year alone, Mt Bachelor made donations to over 200 non-profit organizations. Among the beneficiaries: MBSEF, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bend- La Pine and Redmond Education Foundations, Bend Metro Parks and Recreation, the Deschutes Children's Fund, Healthy Beginnings, Camp Fire of America and Bike To School Tuesday.  Click here for a complete list of donation recipients.

Along with these and many other contributions Mt. Bachelor sponsors many on-mountain events.

The third annual Ski for Schools Day raised $13,630 for the Bend - La Pine and Redmond Education Foundations!   This day offers $15 lift tickets in advance and $20 at the window and occurs the day prior to the official Opening Day.  In 2008 Mt Bachelor held Ski for Schools after opening day during an in-service day allowing children and educators to participate in superior conditions than Mother Nature provided around opening day. 100%of the ticket proceeds benefit the Education Foundations.

The first annual Dirksen Derby was held this December 1st!  Hosted by internationally renowned local snowboarders Josh Dirksen and Thayne Mahler, the event raised over $3,000 for the Tyler Eklund Fund.  Tyler Eklund was paralyzed in April of 2007 in a snowboarding accident during a practice run for a US national championship.  Mt Bachelor in partnership with Dirkson and Mahler plan to offer the event each year around the season's opening with 100% of the proceeds to benefit different local endeavors.

The 17th annual 2007 Neighbor Impact Free Ski Day generated over 33,000 pounds of food for the less fortunate in Central Oregon.  Serviced by the Central Oregon Community Action Agency Network, Mt Bachelor partners with NeighborImpact food bank, the National Guard and Deschutes County services among others to collect food donations in exchange for lift tickets. Anyone who seeks to ski or ride that day can bring in a minimum of three cans of non-perishable food items and receive a full day lift ticket.  The largest one-site food collection event in Central Oregon, this terrific day is also made possible by Combined Communications, The Source Weekly and the United States Postal Service.

Riders for the Cure hosted by our Grom Squad and Freeride Team, is a fun local event to raise money and awareness for the Sara Fisher Breast Health Project, a cooperative breast health education effort led by St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Through our collective efforts between Mt. Bachelor, community businesses and individuals, participating athletes raised almost $14,000 for breast cancer awareness programs throughout eight counties in Central and Eastern Oregon.

The Employee Food Drive is a competition among Mt. Bachelor departments and a great way to colllect food for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Although a truly competitive battle between departments, the real winners were those who benefited from the more than 2500 pounds of food donated by Mt. Bachelor employees.

Mt Bachelor is privilaged to host the Oregon Special Olympics Winter Games, a tradition at the resort for decades.  The resources that Bachelor donates such as grooming, staff, equipment, food and several hundred lift tickets is a small endeavor for this rewarding event.  Mt Bachelor looks forward to many more successful years of partnership with the SOOR organization. Watch  these amazing athletes the first week of March 2009.
