Mountain Safety

Fire Safety

Fires are a major concern in the summer months.  Campfires and open flames are strictly prohibited.  Smoking is not permitted on the ski lift or in any of the resort's buildings.  We would prefer that you refrain from smoking entirely during your visit to Mt. Bachelor.  If you must smoke, we recommend you do so in the West Village Parking lot.  Receptacles are available in that area to dispose of your cigarettes.

Patrol

Patrollers are on duty in the summer and are stationed above the Pine Marten lift terminal.

Boundary Policy
Mt Bachelor manages its terrain as a closed boundary facility. The boundary location is set by patrol depending on conditions and lift operation schedules.  If you choose to hike above the Pine Marten Lodge during Summer Operations, please be aware that portion of the mountain is uncontrolled and not patrolled.

The catch lines are marked with single orange and black bamboo poles with orange disc signs on them labeled ski area boundary.

The boundarys are not roped.  It is your responsibility to know the boundary locations before going into these areas.  There are boundary explanation signs posted at the top of the upper lifts.  If you have any questions on the boundary location please ask a Patroller.

Access Restrictions

Uphill access, ski mountaineering, is restricted to areas not in grooming operations or areas of avalanche control operations.

Areas that are not open to the public are considered uncontrolled for avalanche hazard.

The following access restrictions have been agreed to by Deschutes National Forest and are outlined in Mt. Bachelors annual operating plan.

  • Parking lot access restriction in off season after operating hours.
  • Overnight parking in lots.
  • Service road access by unauthorized vehicles.
  • The use of motor vehicles within the permit area including snowmobiles.
  • Sledding and tubing outside of the specific tubing area.
  • Entering avalanche areas during control operations.
  • Entering areas when active grooming operations are in progress.

Note: RV overnight parking is available by permit only available from the Security department at the Security office in West Village parking lot.
