7th Annual

Pond Skimming Championships 2008

The 7th Annual Liberty Bank Pond Skimming Championships return to Mt. Bachelor on Sunday, May 18!   Wrapping up another season at Mt Bachelor, this event has antics like you wouldn't believe.

The Liberty Bank Pond Skimming Championships brings brave (and slightly crazy) skiers and riders from all over the region and country.  Each participant has one goal- cross the icy pond successfully- and, with luck and skill, showing off style and costume!

To raise the stakes Mt. Bachelor will be raffling off a 2008-2009 Unlimited Season Pass for all participants.  That ought to give you that extra push you need to pull out your costume and take your chances across the pond!

The Liberty Bank Pond Skimming Championships will take place on Sunday, May 18th, the last day of the season at Mt. Bachelor.  Enjoy morning skiing on the east side, then join us at the bottom of Sunrise Chair for this hilarious competition.  Emcee Dennis Shaw from the Twins and DJ's David Miller and Kevin Byrne will bring us through the day with tunes and style.

During Round 2, participants will be judged on the following:

  • Ability to cross the pond, max 10 points.  If the participant does not fully cross, the pond will be marked 1 through 10, depending on where the participant falls they will be granted that number of points.
  • Costume, max 10 points.  Inviting all Disco Divas, Mo Town impersonators, Strawberry Shortcakes, Pink Gorillas and Greek or Roman Gods!  Don't slack off in the costume category!  This is worth 1/3 of your score and really wins points with the crowds.  It can easily break a tie!
  • Style/Technique, max 10 points! Cross the Pond and make it look GOOD!  This is really up to you.  Maybe you'll feel extra BRAVE like Tim the Mechanic from last year, who twisted a 180, exiting the pond backwards.
