Mt. Bachelor is committed to creating the next generation of snow riders.  We have developed a series of value-packed learning experiences through the Mt. Bachelor Snowsports School to make the transition from a “never-ever” to a solid intermediate skier or snowboarder as simple and affordable as possible.  Whether you are 4 or 54, Mt. Bachelor offers a learning track just right for any age!

SKI OR RIDE IN 5

SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ enrollment is now closed for the 2013-2014 season. Enrollment for the 2014-2015 season will begin in November or December.

Awarded the Best Beginner Program in America by the National Ski Areas Association!

In April 2012, Mt. Bachelor's SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ learn-to-ski or snowboard program received the coveted "Conversion Cup" award by the National Ski Areas Association, recognizing Mt. Bachelor as having the best beginner program that "converts" first-timers into life-long snow sports enthusiasts.

Mt. Bachelor's Dave Rathbun accepts the 2012 Conversion Cup Trophy.

SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ is an award-winning lesson program designed for those "never-evers" who have not had previous experiences trying to learn to ski or snowboard. The SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ program offers candidates who are committed to becoming a skier or snowboarder this year by committing to a program that includes:

  • 5 lesson packages with a ski or snowboard rental and lift ticket
  • Reserved close-in parking privileges at Sunrise Lodge
  • Instruction by one of Mt. Bachelor's hand-picked instructors based on their communication skills and overall success rate of coaching beginners
  • "Graduation Gifts" that reward those who complete the program with a Season Pass product good for the rest of the season and a discount on a Full Winter Season Passes for two additional years!

NOTE: This program is designed exclusively for those new to snowsports.  It is not meant for someone who already knows one discipline and wants to crossover to another. If you are familiar with skiing or riding and can get on chairlifts, know about the mountain, or have done it before, this program is not for you. We will be assessing this at the outset of the program.  If you are deemed to be already a snowsports participant by your instructor, we will excuse you from the program and offer you a refund for the remainder of the program cost.

SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ Registration

SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ enrollment is now closed for the 2013-2014 season. Current enrollees have until Sunday, March 23 to complete their lessons and graduate from the program.

Pre-registration is required prior to starting your first lesson. Call us at 800-829-2442 to pre-register.

After you pre-register, you don't need to reserve a lesson on a specific day or time; simply show up any five days between January 6, 2014 and March 23, 2014. Two-hour lessons are offered daily at 10:00 am and 1:00 p.m., but you'll want to arrive at Sunrise Lodge at least one hour prior to the lesson start time in order to get set-up with comfortable rental equipment. Weekends and holidays can be busy with larger lesson group sizes and longer wait times to rent equipment, so we recommend midweek days for the best SKI OR RIDE IN 5 ℠ experience. There's even a chance you could get a private lesson on a midweek day!  Please note that only one lesson is permitted per day.

Minor Helmet Requirement

Mt. Bachelor strives to be an industry leader in Mountain Safety. To further this goal we are requiring students 17 and under in any Snowsports School lesson program to wear ski and snowboard specific helmets during lessons. For your convenience Mt. Bachelor offers helmets for rent or sale. Additional information about helmets and Snowsports can be found on the NSAA’s website at lidsonkids.org.

Kids on Lifts

Using a chair lift or gondola while skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, or even just sightseeing, is an exceptionally safe and secure mode of transportation. Nonetheless incidents and accidents can happen – especially when people are unaware of loading, riding and unloading procedures. Educate your children about loading, riding and unloading lifts. Slope safety and personal responsibility should be discussed prior to hitting the slopes or using a lift.

Keep in mind, when your child loads a lift chair without you, they may not always be riding with another adult. Remember, it's your responsibility to know how to use and ride the lift safely as well as your child's. Having the knowledge and dexterity to use the lift properly will ensure fun for everyone. More info from Kidsonlifts.org.

Oregon Adaptive Sports

Oregon Adaptive Sports (OAS) provides teaching for a variety of skiing disciplines including two track, three track, four track, mono-skiing, and bi-skiing. Their specialized and innovative equipment and techniques provide an opportunity for anyone with a disability to learn how to ski, build self-esteem and confidence, improve fitness levels, make new friends, and have fun.

The individuals taking advantage of OAS services have a range of disabilities including visual and hearing impairments, amputations, cerebral palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, spina bifida, developmental disabilities, paraplegia, quadriplegia, and many more. Individuals with a permanent or long-term physical or neurological disability who require use of adaptive ski equipment and/or adaptive teaching techniques are eligible for participation.

More information is available at www.oregonadaptivesports.org. Mt. Bachelor supports Oregon Adaptive Sports through a variety of charitable functions.
