Big Wave Challenge
Fri, May 8 - Sun, May 10
CANCELLED – In compliance with Governor Brown’s mandate for gatherings and following recommended state social-distancing, we are cancelling events that would bring large numbers of people together, including the Big Wave Challenge scheduled for May 5th. In these fluid times our commitment is to the health and safety of our staff, our guests, and our community.
We look forward to seeing you in 2021 for the return of the Big Wave Challenge. For the latest updates on Mt. Bachelor's events, stay tuned at: https://www.mtbachelor.com/events-calendar/.
Big Wave is back! This time in May with hopes of some warm, surfy weather. Every year Mt. Bachelor holds this one-of-a-kind event inspired by the event's host — legendary surfer and Mt. Bachelor Ambassador, Gerry Lopez.
This snowboard-only event features a series of huge sweeping banked corners, quarter pipes, and spines, incorporating the natural terrain as much as possible, to create wave-like features into a flowing course - located off Midway. The idea of the Mt. Bachelor Big Wave Challenge is to bring the surf to the mountain.
Practice will be held on Friday, May 8th, and the competition will be held on either Saturday, May 9th or Sunday, May 10th based on the best weather day -- similar to a real surf competition. Full schedule to come.
