BABIES IN BACKPACKS
As a resort policy, Mt. Bachelor does not allow skiers, snowboarders, nordic Skiers, snowshoers, uphill travelers, or other guests to carry infant/toddler backpacks, chest packs, wraps, or other similar devices on their bodies while using Mt. Bachelor’s chairlifts, conveyors, ski runs, Nordic ski runs, uphill routes, or Snowshoeing trails.
Mt. Bachelor’s safety concerns include:
National safety standards that govern chairlift design and operations (referred to as the ANSI B77 passenger ropeway standards)and require chairlift passengers to be able to access chairlifts of their own accord and ability.
The chair or carrier’s design may preclude this type of use of a pack by a guest.
- Safety concerns related to the potential evacuation of chairlifts and the equipment employed in such evacuations. Chairlift evacuation procedures require passengers to be unencumbered by packs, making a pack carrying infants/toddlers a threat to the safety of the parent/guardian, the infant/toddler, and the ski patrol who conduct such evacuations.
There are additional safety concerns related to skiing or snowboarding with an infant/toddler in a pack(front or rear carrier) an elevated risk associated with collisions with other guests, and potential harm to an infant/toddler in a pack (front or rear carrier). This risk is present no matter how well trained or the expertise of the parent or guardian carrying the infant/toddler. For these reasons and others not outlined, Mt. Bachelor also does not permit the towing (front or rear) of anyone or anything irrespective of age, up Mt. Bachelor's designated up hill routes. As a reminder, Lava Tube Magic Carpet is a resource to our guests at Sunrise Lodge and is free of charge.
