DESIGNATED UPHILL PASS ROUTES

Uphill travel routes are available during the winter season as conditions permit. We will open uphill travel routes in line with our ability to effectively manage and operate all functions within the entire resort, including but not limited to snowmaking, trail grooming, equipment maintenance, snow removal, etc.

During the winter ski and snowboard season, uphill travel is restricted to the routes listed below. Uphill routes may be realigned or removed as circumstances warrant. Kiosks indicating open/closed status are located at the bottom of Red Chair, at the compression of the Cone (the uphill side of the Cone where West Boundary merges on to Leeway), and at the bottom of the NW Crossover which displays the Summit hiking route status. Alternatively, you can check the Lift & Trail status page (look for the Uphill Routes tab) for the most up-to-date uphill trail status.

PINE MARTEN ROUTE

The Pine Marten route begins at the saddle of the Cone and follows route markers along the climbers’ right side of the Leeway trail to Upper Ed’s Garden then through the trees to the backside of Pine Marten Lodge. This route is only open when Pine Marten Express is open, conditions allow, and when kiosk signs or 'Uphill Routes' status site indicates the route is open. Hiking or snowshoeing is permitted.

SUMMIT ROUTE

This route begins above Pine Marten Lodge then takes West Ridge trail to the summit. Travel is allowed only when the Summit chair is operating and the kiosk signs or 'Uphill Routes' status on the website indicates the route is open. The Summit route closes when the lift closes at 3:00 p.m. Those starting late in the day will be turned around by Ski Patrol. This route is not advised for hiking or snowshoeing.

A NOTE ON SAFETY

When alpine touring at Mt. Bachelor consider yourself backcountry skiing / riding. During pre-opening, operating hours and after hours the ski area is maintained with heavy machinery, and at times, remotely delivered explosives. Outside of normal operating hours, Mt. Bachelor is uncontrolled and unpatrolled.

Always know before you go and maintain Personal Responsibility and Backcountry safety protocol. Be aware of unmarked hazards and again, please respect Mt. Bachelor Mountain Operations crews as they prepare and maintain terrain for the current or impending season.

With the addition of the Cloudchaser lift, the former east side uphill route is no longer a safe or feasible route for uphill travel given the large increase in the number of downhill skiers in this area. Consequently, the east side Summit route is permanently closed during Mt. Bachelor’s winter operating seasons.

Any rescue operations that are initiated on your behalf can result in the loss of skiing/snowboarding privileges and you will be subject to being billed for the total amount of the costs incurred by Mt. Bachelor during rescue operations. The length of time that your skiing/snowboarding privileges will be revoked will be determined by Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol and resort management.
