Mt. Bachelor congratulates our friends and partners at the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council (UDWC) for another successful river cleanup event, marking the 30th annual community effort to clear litter and noxious weeds from various riverbanks along the beloved Deschutes River.
The cleanup brought together 289 volunteers across six locations from Tumalo State Park to La Pine. Together, volunteers spent the day removing trash, pulling invasive weeds, and even diving under the surface to retrieve trash on the riverbed floor.
By the end of the day, approximately 2,100 pounds of garbage and weeds were removed from the river and its surrounding areas. The haul included everything from deflated floaties and large tires to glass bottles, cans, and even a few cell phones.
As a longtime sponsor and partner of the UDWC, Mt. Bachelor is proud to support the organization’s ongoing work to protect the health of the Deschutes River and its surrounding ecosystems. The river is an important part of what makes Central Oregon such a special place, providing critical habitat for fish and wildlife while offering year-round opportunities for our community and visitors to enjoy the outdoors.
Mt. Bachelor congratulations to UDWC, volunteers, partners, and sponsors who helped make this year’s cleanup such a success. A special thank you goes out to Kolleen Miller, event organizer and Education & Development Director at UDWC for her tireless work and dedication to furthering habitat restoration, long-term monitoring, and watershed education.
