Mt. Bachelor is proud to partner with The Father’s Group, an organization working to strengthen Central Oregon by enhancing the lives of the Black community through education, leadership, economic empowerment, and community advocacy.
We first heard about The Father’s Group when Kenny Adams, Executive Director of the nonprofit reached out via our online donation portal to see if we’d be interested in sponsoring their annual Juneteenth event at Drake Park. After meeting with Kenny over coffee and learning more about the organization, it was clear that The Father’s Group’s mission is strongly aligned with Play Forever.
The 2023 Juneteenth sponsorship was the start of a budding partnership between The Father’s Group and Mt. Bachelor. Since last summer, we have been lucky enough to get to know Kenny, a few of his board members, and staff. We have hosted them for summer scenic chairlift rides at the resort and have regularly attended their monthly meetings in town.
A few members of Mt. Bachelor’s philanthropic committee also had a great time representing the resort as “The Mt. Bachelor Storm Troopers” at The Father’s Group’s axe-throwing fundraiser at Unofficial Logging Company. What’s better than drinking beers, throwing axes, and meeting new friends in the name of a great cause?
We are looking forward to collaborating with The Father’s Group to increase diversity on the slopes, support the Black community in Central Oregon, and work towards a more inclusive and equitable culture both at Mt. Bachelor and beyond.
In February, we hosted Ujima, The Father’s Group’s student outreach program for a snowshoe tour. This was the first time much of the group had visited Mt. Bachelor! Huge thanks to the Nordic Center’s team for being fantastic and helpful hosts.
Also in February, we raised over $7,000 to support The Father's Group’s youth programming in honor of MLK day and Black History Month.
Looking ahead, we will once again sponsor their annual Juneteenth celebration, which is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. The theme this year is Jubilee (which means celebration). Be sure to stop by Drake Park on June 15 and 16. Mt. Bachelor will be hosting a booth and giving away swag, sharing information about employment perks, and collecting scholarship interest forms. Plus, there will be a raffle with epic prizes and giveaways.
Mt. Bachelor is committed to cultivating inclusivity in the outdoors and will continue to foster partnerships with local organizations to address challenges and break down barriers to participation. We are extraordinarily excited to work with The Father’s Group on additional summer programming. A sneak peek for what’s to come... rafting, hiking, ziplining, and lots of memorable moments.
